McLaren P1™ GTR to show it's Limited Production form in Geneva.

  • Makes the transition from concept to production with track tested modifications
  • Tuning in development results in 10 percent more downforce than the McLaren P1™ road car
  • Lightweight components and motorsport technologies trim a further 50kg
  • McLaren P1™ GTR Driver Programme confirms first locations
  • Geneva Show car livery inspired by iconic McLaren F1 GTR, chassis #06R
  • McLaren P1™ GTR will premiere alongside the recently announced McLaren 675LT on Stand 1240, Hall 1 at 12.15 CET (11.15 GMT) on Tuesday, 3 March
The track-dedicated 1000PS McLaren P1™ GTR will debut at the 85th International Geneva Motor Show in limited production form with only minor modifications to the Design Concept presented just six months ago. The most noticeable change is the livery that the Geneva show car will be sporting.

It is one which will be available to the fortunate few who will be joining the McLaren P1™ GTR Driver Programme that kicks off at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain later this year. The design is homage to the yellow and green McLaren F1 GTR, chassis #06R, which has claimed its own place in history as one of the five F1 GTRs that dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the historic debut by McLaren 20 years ago.

From design concept to the track

The McLaren P1™ GTR has completed an extensive and intense testing schedule across the world following the unveil of the Design Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance last summer. This has produced enhancements to the original design to optimise aerodynamic performance and cooling.

The front track is 80mm wider than the road-going McLaren P1™ and with its aggressively profiled front splitter, the also car sits 50mm lower to the ground on centre-locking 19-inch motorsport alloy wheels shod with Pirelli slick tyres. The lower bodywork is trimmed with a sleek aerodynamic blade as previewed on the design concept, which cleans the flow of air along the car’s flanks.

The lightweight windscreen from the McLaren P1™ road car, measuring just 3.2mm thick, has been retained, while the side windows are now motorsport-specification polycarbonate with a sliding ‘ticket window’ on the driver’s side. The chemically toughened glass panels in the roof have been replaced with carbon fibre panels to give the cabin a more enclosed, cocooned environment, as has the engine bay cover. The weight saving measures on the McLaren P1™ GTR combine to strip out 50kg over the road-going model.

The rear of the track-only model is dominated, in contrast to the road-going McLaren P1™, by the presence of a fixed-height wing which sits more than 400mm above the sculpted rear bodywork – an increase of over 100mm of the adjustable wing on the road car.  Working in conjunction with the front-mounted aerodynamic flaps ahead of the front wheels, the rear wing helps to increase downforce levels by more than 10 percent – meaning up to 660kg at 150 mph.

Mounted on light weight carbon fibre pylon supports, the wing retains the DRS (Drag Reduction System) of the road car, which trims the pitch from 32° to 0° at the push of the button on the steering wheel. Another bold and differentiating feature at the rear are the large twin exhaust pipes, formed from an Inconel and titanium alloy. This system saves in excess of 6.5kg over the already light road-going system.

Significant updates and modifications to the IPAS powertrain have been made beneath the ‘shrinkwrapped’ carbon fibre bodywork. At its heart, the McLaren P1™ GTR seamlessly integrates the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with an enhanced lightweight electric motor.

Combined, these powerplants generate 1,000PS; 800PS (789bhp) is produced by the petrol engine, coupled to 200PS (197bhp) available immediately from the electric motor.

The powertrain has been thoroughly revised for optimum performance on track, with key components replaced with motorsport-developed parts, more suited to the sustained high speed running the cars will be subjected to. In addition to this, features within the powertrain of the McLaren P1™ designed specifically for public highway use have been removed to reduce weight.

McLaren F1 GTR #06R: inspiring a new generation

McLaren F1 GTR chassis #06R was campaigned successfully throughout the 1995 and 1996 seasons with Mach One Racing, and is one of the longest serving examples of the McLaren F1 GTR in competition. The Harrods-sponsored #51 was famously one of seven McLaren F1 GTRs to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, and was driven to the final podium position by multiple Le Mans race winner Derek Bell, his son Justin, and Andy Wallace. After this result, the team went on to win the final three races of the BPR Championship.

The following year, the team enjoyed another strong campaign. Oliver Grouillard joined Derek Bell and Andy Wallace in the line-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and finished a commendable sixth. The team also claimed a win at Silverstone in the Global GT Endurance championship.

McLaren P1™ Driver Programme

The first locations for the first McLaren P1™ Driver Programme have now been confirmed, and will see drivers attend an initial test session at Silverstone, England, followed by the first on-track activity at Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. These events will follow on from individual driver profiling sessions at the McLaren Technology Centre. These tailored consultations will include a race seat fitting, a Human Performance Centre assessment, and final discussions around the design and livery of each model with McLaren Automotive Design Director Frank Stephenson.

Each driver will also experience the McLaren P1™ GTR from the simulator for the first time.

Ultimate Series forms the third and final tier of the McLaren model line-up

The McLaren P1™ GTR joins the road-going McLaren P1™ in the Ultimate Series. This exclusive range prioritises aerodynamics and outright performance through notable advances in weight reduction, chassis and powertrain engineering and the use of pioneering materials.

McLaren has now established a three tier naming structure of Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series.  The Sports Series is the entry point to McLaren and will make its global debut at the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April. Above this sits the core McLaren Super Series, comprising the 650S, the Asia-only 625C and the recently-announced 675LT which will premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.

The McLaren P1™ GTR will make its global debut alongside the recently announced McLaren 675LT on Stand 1240, Hall 1 at 12.15 CET (11.15 GMT) on Tuesday, 3 March 2015 at the 85th International Geneva Motor Show.

All New Volkswagen Sharan to get debut at 85th International Geneva Motor Show 2015.

  • Even more technical highlights for the popular Volkswagen MPV
  • New TSI and TDI engines are up to 15 per cent more fuel efficient
Volkswagen is presenting the technically updated Sharan at the Geneva International Motor Show. Numerous new convenience and assistance systems make the family-friendly MPV one of the most advanced models in its segment.

A wide range of infotainment systems also guarantees full connectivity to many smartphones and tablets.

At the same time, the fuel economy of the petrol and diesel engines was improved by up to 15 per cent. The updated Sharan will arrive on the German market this summer; advance sales begin in April.

Along with the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically initiates braking after a collision if the driver is no longer able to intervene, numerous optional assistance systems are available in the updated Sharan as well.

They include the ambient traffic monitoring system Front Assist with integrated City Emergency Braking, the Lane Assist lane-keeping assistant, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the third generation of Park Assist (for assisted parking and exiting from parking spaces) and the Blind Spot Monitor, which warns of vehicles in the blind spot when changing lanes.

The petrol (TSI) and diesel (TDI) engines, which are as powerful as they are efficient, have been completely redesigned. The turbocharged direct-injection engines are now up to 15 per cent more fuel-efficient, and they all conform to the Euro-6 emissions standard. The two TSI engines produce 110 kW / 150 PS and 162 kW / 220 PS.

The power of the strongest petrol engine is increased by 15 kW / 20 PS. The diesel engines are offered at three power levels: 85 kW / 115 PS, 110 kW / 150 PS (gain of 10 PS) and 135 kW / 184 PS (gain of 7 PS). All engines (except the 85 kW TDI) may be combined with the agile 6-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG), which now also enables the fuel-saving coasting function (decoupling of the engine from the drivetrain when foot is taken off the accelerator pedal).

The second generation of the modular infotainment platform is used in the Sharan; it offers a maximum level of connectivity. The Sharan is one of the first Volkswagen vehicles to be equipped with "App Connect"; thanks to MirrorLinkTM, Android Auto (Google) and Car Play (Apple), a wide variety of apps can be fed into the new infotainment systems. The systems are also impressive due to their fast processors (optimised boot- up, quick route calculation, optimal touchscreen performance) and high-resolution displays.

In addition, the Sharan interior is upgraded with new accents and materials, and the instrument cluster is perfected. The rear of the Sharan now also has a more concise light signature thanks to LED technology.

* Fuel consumption of Sharan in l/100 km: 7.1 - 4.9 (combined); CO2 emissions in g/km: 167 – 130 (combined), efficiency class: C-A (estimated, as of 16 February, 2015)

With its worldwide public debut just weeks away at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the All-New Hyundai Tucson is set to redefine the Hyundai brand’s C-SUV offering – featuring the highest levels of design, quality and technology which are poised to lead the segment.

“The All-New Tucson is a bold new car that represents another leap forward for Hyundai,” commented Tony Whitehorn, President & CEO, Hyundai Motor UK. “With a fantastic design and advanced technologies, it makes a strong statement about where the Hyundai brand is heading and provides a highly competitive vehicle in the important C-SUV segment.”

New model follows SUV sales success

Since the first Santa Fe went on sale in 2001, Hyundai Motor has delivered more than one million SUVs to European customers, with over 116,600 UK deliveries, affirming the company’s credentials in the growing SUV market. The All-New Tucson will be of high importance to Hyundai’s business in the UK, as the C-SUV segment accounted for 20.5% of the company’s sales in 2014.

Bold and athletic exterior creates unique SUV appearance

“Design expresses our progressive spirit and passion, and it is transforming our brand. The All-New Tucson has a bold and athletic presence achieved through refined, flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and most importantly, our newest generation hexagonal grille – our brand signature,” said Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer at Hyundai Motor Group.

While the All-New Tucson adopts an SUV profile and strong proportions, the design team have worked to ensure a sleek and agile look.

The front of the All-New Tucson is dominated by the Hyundai signature hexagonal front grille, which connects with the LED headlamps to create a distinctive face.  The front bumper features a wing-shaped appearance, which incorporates the LED daytime running lights, giving the car a unique style and provides a visual reference to its wide track.

In moving the A-pillar back from its conventional location, it becomes visually disconnected from the long bonnet, accentuating the sleek profile. The directional shape of the wheel arches contribute to the agile and dynamic appearance, even when stationary, while the expressive ‘Z’ character-line above the rear wheel arches creates a sculptured side profile and a powerful stance. The rear has a clean design with horizontal lines that flow from the rear wheel arches and accentuated by slim tail lights.

Refined interior combines elegance with intelligent ergonomics

As well as introducing new soft-touch, high-quality materials across cabin surfaces, the interior has undergone extensive ergonomic testing to ensure ease of use and a pleasant experience. The modern simplicity of the centre console is underlined by its horizontal orientation, and there is an optional ‘Wine Red’ leather to bring further sophistication to the cabin (dependent on market specification).

Generous space from efficient packaging

The All-New Tucson is built on a completely new platform which features generous interior dimensions. Clever packaging ensures an excellent exterior-to-interior dimension ratio, optimising the space that is afforded to passengers and luggage. Comfortable and airy inside, All-New Tucson delivers a substantial 513 litres of luggage capacity with all the seats up.

Convenience and connectivity features are tailored to customer needs

New convenience features offered with the All-New Tucson include heated and ventilated front seats, with longer seating cushions for enhanced support and comfort. A smart powered tailgate (which opens at the approach of the key-holder) and Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) with parallel and bay parking function both increase everyday usability.

The new-generation navigation system is more than three times faster than the previous version fitted in other Hyundai models and comes with a seven-year free subscription to TomTom LIVE services (subject to market specification).

Comprehensive active and passive safety package

Where safety features are concerned, the introduction of new technologies ensures that All-New Tucson is one of the best equipped vehicles in its segment. These include an Autonomous Emergency Braking system – with three operation modes: pedestrian, city and inter-urban – which triggers automatic braking whenever it detects an unsafe closing speed with a person or vehicle in front, and operates from low to high speeds.

In addition, a Lane Keeping Assist System proactively corrects the steering to avoid unintended lane departure, and the Rear Traffic Cross Alert system uses radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle, alerting the driver to any approaching cross-traffic.

In addition, Blind Spot Detection helps monitor traffic around the car, while the Speed Limit Information Function monitors local overhead and roadside speed limit signs and provides reminders. The Active Bonnet System raises the vehicle’s bonnet to cushion the impact shock in any frontal collision with a pedestrian or cyclist.

Wide ranging choice of efficient powerplants

The All-New Tucson will be available with one of the widest powertrain ranges in its class. These include two gasoline engines: 135 PS (1.6-litre GDI) or 176 PS (1.6-litre T-GDI) – plus three diesel options: 115 PS (1.7-litre), 136 PS (2.0-litre standard power) or 184 PS (2.0-litre high power). The new turbocharged 176 PS 1.6-litre T-GDI engine can be paired with either a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) or a six-speed manual. (Engine options may differ between European markets).

All engines have been enhanced to offer improved driveability and fuel efficiency, as well as meeting Euro6 emission standards.

Every All-New Tucson for Europe will be made in Europe

Hyundai Motor will manufacture 100% of All-New Tucson models sold in European markets at its facility in the Czech Republic – a key part of its commitment to the region. Hyundai’s confidence in its European build quality means that every All-New Tucson will come with the company’s industry-leading Five Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty as standard.

After making its public World Premiere at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the All-New Tucson will go on sale in Europe during the second half of 2015.
